Insurance Requirements
In New Jersey, most insurers offer two types of policies – Basic and
Standard. While most drivers opt for the Standard policy, the Basic
policy can help low-income drivers stay legal and save money. A Basic
policy includes the minimums needed to be a legal driver in New Jersey.
This includes:
- Property Damage: $5,000 per accident
- Personal Injury Protection: $15,000 per person per accident
- Personal Injury Protection (permanent injuries): $250,000 per person per accident
