Alcohol and Driving
New Jersey DWI laws aren’t just meant to annoy drivers – they are
important for keeping drivers all over the state safe. Alcohol affects
every person differently, but typically your BAC will rise over 0.08%
if you have more than one drink per hour. One drink (one glass of wine,
one shot, or one beer) is absorbed by every drinker in a different way,
according to sex, weight, amount of food in the stomach, and
more.
Even if you think you are okay to drive, even a small amount of alcohol
can cause your judgment to be clouded, so it is hard to make crucial
decisions while driving. It also slows your reaction time. If it would
typically take your one second to react to a child running out in front
of your car, it might take two seconds to react after you’ve had a few
beers. Those two seconds could mean the difference between life and
death for the child.
