New Jersey Speed Limits
New Jersey’s speed limits are clearly posted on all major roads. In
case you don’t see a sign, the following speed limits usually
apply:
- 65 miles per hour on the highway
- 45 – 50 miles per hour on two-lane road
- 25 miles per hour in residential areas
In a school zone, the limit might be as low as 15 miles per hour when
the lights are flashing, and you can always expect lower speed limits
in construction areas. Remember, in many “safe corridors” in New
Jersey, if you speed, fines are higher.
